If it’s your first time trying therapy, you might be unsure of what therapy means. With over 400 styles of therapy out there, it’s okay to feel unsure! Therapy can vary widely, so let’s sort through a few of the key features of my style of therapy.

1. A warm, accepting place

I always feel positively toward my clients, including when they’re bringing tough stuff. So whether you’re bringing things you’re nervous about, or feeling shame around your mistakes - it’s all met with warmth, kindness and acceptance.

We are all human, and therapy is a great place to bring painful things. By bringing them into the light, we can process and release what has happened.

2. An exploration of ideas

We can wander around your thoughts, examining how you work and what’s important to you. You show me whatever you want to, and you can keep back whatever you want to.

If you need to keep some things locked away for a while, that’s okay! It’s your session, so you can do with it what you want. If you feel later that you want to explore that locked door, we can go there. It all moves at your pace.

3. A place to process the past

If you don’t want to explore your past, that’s okay! But some people find it really helpful.

Often, people are shaped by the experiences they go through. So when we look at how you’re struggling today, it can be useful to look back at your past and find out why you’re holding on to certain behaviours and beliefs that might not be serving you any more.

4. A place to vent about the present

You might be struggling with the stresses of today, trying to find your way through grief, or feeling angry toward someone in your life. Whatever it is, we can let that pressure out by talking it through.

It’s helpful to talk about it with a therapist, because I can offer a fresh perspective, and I won’t have a relationship with the people you’re talking about. So it’s your place to feel everything you need to, bounce ideas off me, and work out what would help you at this time.

5. A place to break unhelpful habits and build your future

I am trained in CBT, which is a change-focused approach for breaking and making new habits. So whether you want to drop a habit but don’t know how, relate to someone differently, or build a lifestyle that suits you better, we can work on that in sessions.

6. Therapy shaped around you

All my work is about supporting you. So if you want to change direction, if you want more tools and focus, or more exploration - let me know!

I regularly check in with you, so that you feel you’re making the most of your session. This can help us stay on track and bring about change as quickly as you feel able.

I have plenty more to offer, so if you’re wondering about specifics, please have a look at my website or drop me a line. I provide cosy online therapy, supporting people to feel better and bring about the change they want to see in themselves.
